Control System Programming

NorthWind’s control system programming team utilizes standard techniques and tools to provide streamlined, repeatable, well-documented programs.

You can expect reduced development time and a system that is easy to use, troubleshoot, and maintain. To ease troubleshooting, reference points are built into the HMI, PLC, and electrical drawings, allowing personnel to quickly find the information they need.

NorthWind is a Rockwell Automation Solution Partner. We also have extensive experience with Ignition, Siemens, and other PLC and HMI platforms. As a certified member of the Control System Integrators Association (CSIA), you can have confidence that NorthWind’s consistent approach will provide superior results.

PLC Programming

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an industrial, digital computer adapted for control of manufacturing processes. NorthWind designs an intelligent system using structured code appropriate for your process. The benefit of a NorthWind-designed PLC is its flexibility and ease of use.

HMI Configuration

A Human Machine Interface (HMI) is the interface that displays system details, including motor or valve status, temperature, pressure, and others. NorthWind HMIs are designed to easy troubleshooting and quickly draw the eye to critical alerts. This gives personnel directly involved in plant operations the tools they need to keep your plant running smoothly and efficiently.

Adaptive Graphics

Our Adaptive Graphics are a modern HMI graphic option designed to bring clarity, personalization, and intuitive navigation to your operations. Built around a streamlined left-rail icon-driven interface, the interface organizes your workspace into six purposeful sections: Custom Dashboard, Operator Controls, P&ID, Alarm Analysis, Maintenance, and Help.

Each user benefits from a personalized dashboard while operator teams work from consistent, facility-wide control screens that standardize the experience across your entire plant. With both dark and light theme options, the graphics adapt to your environment as naturally as it adapts to your workflow.

Custom Programming

Whether you are looking to bring a new control system online, or update an existing system, NorthWind programmers have the extensive process experience and application knowledge necessary to design and implement a system that meets your needs.

High-Performance Graphics

Traditional HMI graphics that are full of color, moving components, and detail are visually impressive but inefficient as the colors and animations detract from the actual data needed. Plant operators and maintenance personnel must quickly identify critical process information and high-performance graphics (HP graphics) allow them to do just that.

PID Control Loops

PID control loops can be very useful in automation and in many different applications. They can be used to control a feeder used in a loss in weight or gain in weight system, or to control pumps that need to run to a setpoint. They can also be used in motion applications with different position targets while maintaining the position against external forces. To illustrate the functional flexibility of PID control loops, I will describe a parallel PID implementation. This example is illustrated below with a block diagram of this control algorithm.
