The Sabetha Chamber of Commerce hosted a community Manufacturing Day on October 5th. Manufacturing Day is an initiative of The Manufacturing Institute that encourages manufacturers across North America to open their doors to high school students, exposing them to the many opportunities and career paths in manufacturing and energizing a future generation of skilled workers.
Students from Sabetha High School, Wetmore High School, Prairie Meadows Private School, Nemaha Central High School, Falls City High School, Horton High School, and Jackson Heights High School attended the event.
All schools met at the Sabetha Main Event Center first thing in the morning where students were welcomed by the Sabetha Chamber, local companies, and Congressman Jake LaTurner. The students then traveled to four of the local companies (Schenck Process, Wenger Manufacturing, Triple C, and NorthWind) for facility tours. During lunch students had the opportunity to visit informational booths setup by many of the local manufacturing companies as well as Colleges and Technical Schools.

We were excited to provide facility tours to over 250 students! During their time here at NorthWind they learned about control systems and factory automation, listened to several of our employees’ background and career paths to their current positions, became aware of the different technical positions NorthWind offers, and toured our panel shop where they observed both the panel cutting and wire terminal machines running.
We enjoyed having the students here and giving them insight into manufacturing career opportunities as they begin to plan their futures.
